Melanotan-2 (MT-II) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that selectively activates melanocortin receptors MC1-R and MC4-R. In pre-clinical models, MC1-R stimulation promotes eumelanin production, leading to accelerated tanning and photoprotective pigmentation, while MC4-R engagement has been associated with appetite modulation and sexual arousal.
